A study undertaken by  Christoph Walter of MosArt Landscape  for the INTERREG -ZECOS project has confirmed that the Ballynagran Small Grants Scheme has delivered on its promise to produce substantial energy savings.

You can view or download Christoph’s report here —–> Ballynagran Small Grant Scheme (2011) Report

The main findings of the report are as follows:

  1. From the assessment of the 338 dwellings in Ballynagran we were able to calculate a primary (this includes energy required to process and deliver the energy to the dwelling) energy demand for the 600 residential dwellings community as 24,500,000 kWh (19,920,000kWh delivered energy).
  2. The potential saving that could be achieved if all economically feasible energy improvements would be undertaken is 50% i.e 12,250,000 kWh in primary energy could be saved for heating/ hot water and electricity for fixed lighting alone in the community.
  3. We also reviewed 54 dwellings where retrofit works were completed in 2011. Thank you for providing this information. The review shows (table 2-12) that a saving of approximately 400,000kWh primary energy (300,000kWh delivered energy ) or 15% of the total energy consumption was achieved through the works. This equals to an energy saving of approximately 15% per dwelling.
